Perdue Farms was just forced to recall over 68,000 lbs of chicken nuggets because they may have been contaminated with wood.
I’m not sure how Perdue is raising their chickens or processing their meat, but I’ve never fed our chickens wood… In addition to fears over salmonella due to the tight quarters that poultry is raised in, we now need to watch out for other contaminates like wood.
This is just another example of the problems with industrial food processing system. A handful of mega companies control the overwhelming majority of meat processing in the United States. Due to the sheer volume of product that passes through their systems, quality consistently fails as an increased volume of product is processed.
How do you avoid tainted foods and recalls like this one? Simple, get your food locally and directly from the producer whenever possible. When you know the farmer who that produced your food, you know the level of quality and care they put into the end product. You can look them in the eye and rest easy about the food you’re feeding your family.
If you’re in the Tampa Bay area, I’d be happy to show you or farm, how we treat our animals, and what the final product is. I’d love to show you Our Way of farming.
