The Crape Myrtle trees that we planted along the driveway are in full bloom. They look amazing with all of the red, pink, and purple colors.

Our ten Peking Ducks are doing well. Their feathers have come in, they’ve turned from yellow to white, and they’ve become creatures of habit.
They’re excited to get fresh water in their kiddie pools each morning and have become super vocal if you don’t let them out of their coop early enough. We call it “Angry Daddy Duck Voice”… They certainly have a very specific quack that lets you know when they’re not happy about something.

Quack, Quack!
The Peking ducks are growing quickly. A lot quicker than I expected, actually. Overall they seem similar to raising chickens at this point. They’re still scared of everything and they all huddle up together.
The garden is in full swing
The aquaponics system is working well and the garden is in full swing. The bell peppers have put on fruit, the potatoes are putting out a ton of greens, and the tomatoes are giving us handfuls of tomatoes each day.
New arrival: Peking Ducks
A while back I was talking to my stepmom about the animals on the farm. She asked “what’s next?” and I talked about wanting to do a run of Peking Ducks at some point.
We’ve got tomatoes!
The tomato plants are doing great in the aquaponic dutch buckets. They’re putting on fruit and before long, we’ll have fresh tomatoes! I’ve been hard pruning them so that they stay in an aggressive fruiting mode.
The best day to plant a tree
We’ve lost a few of the larger trees on the property and decided that it was time to add some new ones to make up for it. We placed one Camphor tree in the front pasture and four in the back pasture. In a few years, they should provide shade for livestock.
The system got larger.
It was bound to happen… We added onto the aquaponics system. Quite considerably.

If you’re like me, you’ve noticed that the shelves at most grocery retailers are a bit bare… Grocery shelves that have historically been fully-stocked were suddenly barren of all products. The canned food aisle is empty and the meat coolers are picked over and product is sparse.
