Homemade chicken nuggets
Everyone loves chicken nuggets. This recipe is a more refined approach to a classic item in any parent’s arsenal.

We’re giving turkeys a try
Our first round of meat chickens was successful so we decided to move things along and expand into turkeys for Thanksgiving.
It’s processing day!
Two months after receiving our Cornish Cross chicks from Schlect Hatchery, we ended up with around a hundred pounds of fresh meat for the freezer.
We learned a lot along the way, suffered some losses, and ended up with some amazing pasture-raised poultry that will feed our family in the upcoming days.
I think that we’ll end up changing the feed mixture in future batches of chickens. Some of the birds ended up being a little too large… One tipped the scale at 9 lbs!
Organic fertilizer
When we purchased this property, it was unimproved pasture land. There were horses on it at one point, but the organic matter was virtually non-existent and the grasses were very poor quality.

50 baby chicks arrived today
We picked up 50 baby chicks this morning from the local post office. We received 25 Black Sexlink chicks (egg layers) and 25 Jumbo Cornish Cross chicks (meat birds).
We’ve had egg layer chicks before, but this is our first try at running meat birds. Here’s hoping to not screw this up too bad…
