Thanksgiving: A mix of emotions

As Thanksgiving approaches each year, it’s always a mix of emotions on the farm. We’re incredibly thankful to live a great life, and for everything that we have. We are thankful for our health, our friends, our family, and our customers.

But we’re also a bit sad.

In order to provide amazing, fresh turkeys to our customers, we have to process those turkeys and end their lives. That process is always a solemn one. We know it’s necessary and that it’s a part of this lifestyle, but it doesn’t mean that it’s easy.

You see, turkeys are a bit different than chickens. While they start out as day old poults that arrive in the mail, just like our chicks, they quickly set themselves apart… They have more of a personality and are far more curious than chickens. They’ll walk over to where you’re at and they’ll look to see what you’re doing. They’ll talk gobble back if you gobble at them. They are a very social bird that you can’t help by like and get attached to.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we are continually reminded to be thankful not only for our family, our health, and for the amazing life that we have, but for the sacrifice of our animals that enables that life. Without them, none of this would be possible.

From our family to yours, we’d like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
